Nimi tried to play cool though her heart felt like it was going to jump out of her chest pretty soon. She’d thought she would be able to bear him calling her the way he did before their break up but right now, there was a kind of fear that excited her when he demanded who she’d been talking to.
Oh now you see how it is.
“He’s just a friend.” She planned on acting casual but the words tumbled out.
“I called you earlier and it said your line was busy.” He went on obviously not convinced. “But I’m going to take your word for it if a friend calls you by this time and he seemed to be forgetting something.”
“It’s not a midnight call Dapo, jeez take it easy. You talk like I’m not allowed to have friends anymore. I don’t choose your friends do I? I don’t question who you should be walking with or talking with, besides, we are meant to be on a break if I do remember.”
He was quiet for a while and Nimi taught he’d hung up till he spoke up again. “How are you?”
“I’m fine thank you, and you?”
“I’m good. I was just calling to check up on you. Your dissertation, mum and Tolani.”
“It’s all going fine I guess. Mum and Tolani are fine.”
“Can I come and check up on them?”
She hesitated. He was obviously looking for a way to come and see her. She shrugged, trying to act unperturbed. “Sure.”
“Are you free this weekend? I know we are on a break but I was thinking if we could hang out as friends? A friend is opening up a bar in Lekki this weekend and he was inviting me to the launch. It’s been his dream for years and I felt it would be nice to tell you about it.”
She closed her eyes inhaling deeply. Lord knew she wanted to be with him and go places with him. She wanted to be that girl in his arms when he was there and that could even help them bond again. But her pride came up again and she said, “Let me think about it.”
“It’s funny how I’ve been getting crazy invites after the break up.” He laughed hoping she would join his humor and relax around him but she sat listening to all he had to say.
“One of our cousins that stay in Abuja is getting married next month. It’s a private party since she’s the type and because she was a widow before she met Ade, she wanted something reserved.”
“Oh I see…, I’m happy for her. That’s great news.”
“Yea.”
“How was work?” She was finally able to ask him.
“Stressful.”
“Sorry, try and relax. Take care of yourself okay?”
“Sure.”
“What about Lara?”
“She went out with IK but hopefully they’ll be coming back soon.” She could hear him smiling over the phone.
“That’s good.”
The line went quiet and for a while, no one said anything to each other. Nimi suddenly wondered when did they become this way? When did they become two people who couldn’t get enough of each other to people who could hardly keep a conversation going.
“I miss you Nimi…”
“Dapo…” She pleaded but he went on.
“I don’t care about you wanting to take a break from me babe. You keep pushing me away and I feel like you’re playing with my heart. What if I wronged you, what if I hurt you? Am I not qualified to apologize? I am not a stranger, I am not some guy you saw one day and we just hit it off. We had a path ahead of us. We knew what we were about. I knew what I wanted when I saw you and I made my intentions known. Right now, you’re not listening to God, you’re not listening to me or anybody. It makes me wonder if I have to step on my toes around you because I’m scared of what you’re going to do and how you’re going to handle it.”
A tear strolled down her cheeks but she wiped it away.
“I love my sister Nimi, and I love you too. If you were in her shoes, I would take your side first. It’s natural. She needs help. She’s battling many demons of her past and present. Do you think I don’t secretly wonder if I can’t help my sister? If she really needs to go to someplace where she can receive better help? Do you think I don’t secretly imagine what her life would be if she has no one to be there for her? Lara is not like you Nimi. She’s no saint, she says words and when she says those words to you, they hurt me too. Her own understanding of love is the messed up kind and not the type you and I have come to know through Jesus.
All I just needed you to understand was a girl who was hurting and would tend to hurt others because that’s the only way she knows how to receive closure. I wish I could make her stop hurting you, I really wish you two would be the best friends ever but for now, it’s not that way. Are you now going to allow her come between what we have? Is that how little I mean to you?”
She remained quiet as the tears kept coming but she did not want him to know how she was hurting with how open he was about his feelings for her.
He sighed when she remained quiet.
“Goodnight. Sleep tight.”
And he was gone.
Nimi dropped the phone on the bed and wept into her hands as everything he’d said suddenly felt true and revealed her heart. Why did she behave that way? Why didn’t she realize that she was playing with his heart? In the past she’d heard stories of women that would behave that way and she would subconsciously judge them. But now, God made her see she was capable of doing the same.
Was she capable of much more she wasn’t yet aware of? She was beginning to scare herself and she wondered how much she had hidden inside of her. Dapo had made her sound like an unforgiving and rebellious child.
Truth was, she’d been acting like one since their break up.
Even God who she asked for guidance each time now seemed like someone who just watched from distance and remained quiet wondering how far she wanted to go without him.
“Daddy are you mad with me?” She felt more tears brimming and she couldn’t hold it in. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.” She picked her bible and knelt down. “What kind of person am I? Why did I chose my ego over you Daddy…, I don’t remember when last I did except for the time my earthly father passed away and when Dapo told me about his past.” She sniffed. “Please forgive me. Forgive me for hurting Lara with my words, even if she hurt me, but you’re more concerned about what’s going on in me than anything else…” More tears came. “I’m sorry about Dapo, sorry I chose to push him away and even when he kept coming after me, I chose to relish the thought that I could hurt him with Eric too unconsciously. I kept thinking of myself and what I wanted and life felt miserable though I tried to tell myself it wasn’t. Please help me to receive your healing and I pray for Lara too, that you’ll continue to work on her heart and heal her.” She wiped her face carelessly. “And whatever she throws at me once more, grant me the grace and the strength to smile and bless her in the midst of it all. In Jesus name.”
For the rest of the night, she prayed in tongues before she drowsed into sleep.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
“Why are you scared? I just want to show you something…” A young man in a hood pulled Nimi’s hands but she kept looking around frightened.
“I don’t want to see anything. Please leave me alone.” She kept struggling but the young man pulled her closer to a room where another young man who smoking was waiting by the door side.
She began to struggle more when she saw there was another man who looked bigger and taller than the one in the hood who pulled her. Soon she was crying.
The young guy raised his hand and smacked her across the face so that she fell to the floor. When she managed to rise, she was bleeding but that didn’t stop her from trying to crawl away.
“You’re not going anywhere” Her captor grabbed her by the waist and she kept kicking and crying while he laughed.
She kept screaming and crying stretching out her hands hoping someone would save her. She suddenly cried out. “Dapo!”
Nimi!
Dapo jerked from the pillow and into the light when he realized that he had only been dreaming and he’d shouted Nimi’s name from the dream. Heaving a sigh of relief, he saw that he had slept off with his bible study notes on his chest and it felt more than a dream.
It had felt so real. He had been trying to see the guy’s face but he couldn’t due to the hood. Even the other hefty guy was unfamiliar and he wondered if Nimi was in trouble.
What kind of trouble could she be in? Should he call her and tell her to be careful?
Pray for her
He had learned to recognize the burden when it came. And so immediately he got the prompting by the Spirit, he began to pray for her as the Spirit led him to.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Nimi was on her way to school the next morning when she got a call from Eric. Wondering why he was calling her so early, she picked out of curiousity.
“Hello Eric, good morning.”
“Hey dear, good morning to you too. Hope you slept well?”
She was going to tell him about he using the word dear with her but she let it slip and replied him politely. “I am fine thank you. Sorry I don’t have the luxury for a chat right now, I am on my way to school….”
“Yea, that was one reason why I called. Uh, Kunle just buzzed me today and informed me about certain changes to your proposal. He said he was going to let you know when he had the time but you know all these big Nigerian men. They can forget and he’s going to make it difficult for you.”
“Oh no…, really? “ She frowned. “I don’t understand. I thought this was resolved yesterday?” She sighed impatiently. “But why now…”
“I told him I would come and pick you and drive to his office if that’s alright by you. At least I can let him know that everything is fine and if I can stand in for you, then he should rest assured that there would not be no problem or complications from you. He told me they had a nasty past experience and he’s thinking twice about it.”
Nimi looked at her wristwatch. She intended to meet with Kemi before classes but she would just have to cancel.
She felt a nudge and wondered what it was. It was an uncomfortable feeling and she tried to place it. Did it have to do with her proposal?
“Uh okay, you can come and pick me at Maryland around the BRT side.” If he didn’t come on time, she would go herself since ikeja wasn’t so far away from Maryland.
“I’m on my way already. Later dear.”
She hung up and stared at her phone. There was something wrong, but she couldn’t place it.
“Daddy, please take control.” Was all she could say before she left the house.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
“So when did he call you?” Nimi asked, still curious that a call like that had come through so early and he was volunteering to help her out just like that.
“We talked late last night but I didn’t want to call you again since it was late.”
She nodded trying to understand but grew suspicious when he kept typing into his phone as he drove.
“But don’t you have to be at work or something? I don’t get why you would come all the way to come and pick me when I can go by myself.”
“I can go to work from there. It’s around Ogba so I just wanted to be like the good Samaritan y’know. Like Jesus talked about in the bible.” He glanced at her and winked. “You look beautiful by the way.”
“Thank you.” She looked ahead and the traffic seemed less which she was grateful for. They sped up Mobolaji Bank Anthony and kept going till she realized he was taking a turn that she wasn’t familiar with.
“Uh, I was thinking…, the project you told me about, I have a friend who is very knowledgeable about things like that, especially when it comes to the statistical aspect.”
She got the nudge again. “I think I will like to get down here Eric.”
He turned to look at her quite surprised. “What?”
“I said I would like to get down here.”
“Why?”
“ I just want to get down. Is it now a crime to get down?” Her heart raced faster as she saw his demeanor changing. He was obviously driving opposite where KEA AFRICA was. She knew her way around Ikeja quite well and so she could tell if it was a short cut or it was entirely another route.
The guy was up to no good. She should have known he was what the Spirit was warning her about that morning.
“I’m sorry babe but you can’t get down here. At least let me get to a place where I can park well.”
“I don’t care. I just want to get down. I don’t care if the police catches you or I will tell them you’re holding me down against my wish.”
He frowned and glanced at her shaking his head. “You think you’re in the states..” He scoffed and his laughter frightened her. God, how could she be so stupid. “You better calm down. Nigerian police that will ask you what you’re doing in my car in the first place. Unilag babes that like free rides.”
Her mind raced and she kept praying. Daddy what should I do.., daddy do something…
One thought dropped into her mind and she jumped at it.
She picked her phone and dialed Dapo’s number. “It’s like you don’t know who I am, or who my boyfriend is…”
He seemed to panic but it was gone soon. “Who are you? The Senator’s daughter?”
“More than that, I am God’s child. You just watch.” She didn’t know where the boldness came from, but she knew it had to do with the power of prayer.
She ignored him hoping Dapo picked and the Eric guy was threatened by what she had said and how confident she was.
He kept driving till they got to a spot where some policemen were flagging down cars with gun in their hands. She heard him curse under his breath realizing that he had not anticipated the police would be stopping down cars.
He picked his wallet and when it got to his car, they flagged it down. “These bloody police officers. They’re hungry for beer palour money I’m sure.”
“Officer…” He greeted when the police man kept glancing at him curiously. He reached to put money into the man’s hands but the other policeman who was unaware of the exchange called out.
“Oga, this car looks like the one we have been looking for o.”
“What?” Eric glanced at Nimi like she was the reason behind his bad luck and turned off the ignition. She chose the chance to get down from the car as well still hoping Dapo would pick his call.
“Ah, Oga, you might have to follow us to the police station o.”
“This is ridiculous…”
“And your girlfriend too.”
Nimi frowned. “I am not his girlfriend. He held me down against my wishes.”
“Don’t mind her, we were there together…” He snapped.
Nimi protested. “Officer, who are you going to believe?”
The other one raised his gun threateningly. “Madam, if the man hold you down, you no suppose be inside him car na. You go follow us go station o.”
“Nimi…” Her boyfriend’s voice came through finally.
“Dapo…” She breathed excited to hear his voice. “Please I need you. I’m in trouble.”
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Nimi settled into a restaurant immediately after the narrow escape and her boyfriend had found a way to pull her out of the police incident that morning. He happened to know the Deputy officer who was able to speak to his men about releasing her since her real boyfriend had called and he attested to her claims of being car kidnapped. They had gone with Eric and Nimi could not imagine what could have happened if God had not intervened with the police and if he had not used Dapo for her.
Police station ke? She had not been to police station in her life before and that would have tarnished her reputation. All because she had allowed one guy to deceive her.
But she could not imagine what Eric planned to do and where he was driving her to. What if he wanted to use her for ritual…
Or rape her.
She grew cold at the thought and she shivered even in the warm weather. She could not bear the thought. Rape? Oh she might not be able to live with herself for the rest of her life. She would live life hating herself because she had no one to blame but herself and her foolish ego that was going to put her into trouble.
For a while, she sat in the restaurant numb and almost looking lifeless. She wanted to cry but no tears came. She just stared into her cup of pepsi as it sat before her.
It felt like hours before Dapo came and found her. When she saw him, all she could do was stand up and walk into his arms and staying there for a while, scared that if she let go, she would lose him completely.
“Traffic…” He tried to explain why he had been late to arrive.
“I’m sorry.” She mumbled into his shirt and that was when the tears came.
“Hey…, you’re here, safe and alright. And that’s fine by me.” He rubbed her back soothingly and when he realized she was crying, he pulled up her face to look into her eyes rubbing the tears away gently.
“Did he touch you?”
She shook her head still sobbing. “I was stupid…”
“No baby, it could happen to anybody and that’s okay. C’mon, lets get you out of here.” He pulled her close to himself protectively while carrying her bag in his other hand. She slid her arms to his side and allowed him lead her into his car.
“But don’t you want to hear what I have to say…” She protested wondering why he was just going to let her go that way. He needed to yell at her and tell her she deserved it for breaking up with him and allowing another man’s attention get to her head.
The way she’d said Lara deserved Soji. She deserved this too.
He smiled at her leaning close to kiss her forehead. “If you’re fine with God, then you’re fine with me. I am just glad you’re alright and you’re here. And that’s all that matters really.”
She could not believe him. If she was the one, she knew he would hear it from her or she would remain quiet. She was beginning to piece two and two together and why he’d done the same for his sister. When Dapo loved, he loved with abandon. She was different and had been upset because she felt his love should be critical like hers.
Still fazed by his character and how loving he was, and how her emotions seemed to be at peak, she raised her head and pressed her lips on his.
She sensed his surprise and how he hesitated. He did not hesitate for long as he wrapped his arms around her pulling her close to him so that he could lean in. He was her first and it felt so good but so brief. She never knew kissing him would feel this way and his lips were so soft and delicate as they pressed against hers with a gentle nibble.
He broke free and looked into her eyes caressing her cheeks and tracing a finger on her lip. He looked lost for a moment as his gaze settled on her lips.
“Are you okay with us doing this…” He asked finally looking into her eyes.
She nodded smiling sheepishly into his eyes. “That’s to say thank you.”
He bit his lip returning her smile. “I hope you don’t plan on giving me another kiss to tell you how much you miss me.”
She grinned. “If you tempt me, I will.”
He reached for her hands and squeezed it. “Let’s grab something to eat and I’ll take you to school when we’re done. Is that okay baby?”
“Sure.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too Dapo.” She whispered when he helped her settle into the passenger’s seat and he found his way to the driver’s seat before driving off.
Deep within, she knew she wasn’t supposed to kiss him due to the boundary they’d agreed to but she pushed it out of her mind settling on the present.
It was just a kiss. And she would leave it that way.
She was happy. God had forgiven her and rescued her, Dapo was her man who received her still and that was all mattered. She was going to bask in the moment as long as she could. Reaching for his free hand like a love sick woman, he glanced at her and smiled as if to re-assure her of his love for her.
And at that moment she was content.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Lara watched IK as he waited at the counter making an order and went back to scrolling through his phone. Her brother had started locking his phone recently.
Though she wanted to be upset and jealous, she knew it had to be one thing. Her brother and Nimi were back together again and he was not leaving her any chances to come between them anymore. The last incident that happened between herself and Nimi had obviously made him create an invisible wall between them and he was back to being his normal self.
She would glance at his phone and see Nimi’s face and that of her brother together pouting at the screen like love sick puppies and just when she wanted to get a peek at their conversation, she would remember the phone was locked.
She wanted to be happy for Dapo, she really wish she could sincerely sit down and hug him telling her how she was happy he was back again with the woman he loved but she had only smiled and nodded that it was good news to see him back to himself.
“Hey you!” IK broke into her thoughts and she smiled at him showing him a picture that was obviously taken years ago. “Why do you look this ugly?” She teased.
He shrugged laughing as he set the tray on the table and sat opposite her.
“Is that place comfortable?” She asked hoping he would get the clue and come and settle beside her on the couch rather than the chair that looked so far away from her. They had been hanging around each other lately and her feelings for him was growing. He wasn’t as handsome as Soji but he had a rugged look that was often covered by his beards. And she was certain he had a nice body too. She had caught him a couple of times in a snug white tshirt and her thoughts had gone crazy.
She had told him she wanted to help him shave if he wasn’t up to it. Maybe it could lead to something more. Her mind had already started conjuring thoughts about the both of them together that she often wondered if IK would still be with her if he saw her uncensored thoughts.
It’d been a while she had been with a man. Weeks almost turning into months. She was beginning to like her friend who spent time with her especially since Dapo seemed to spend more time with his girlfriend and leaving no space for them to hang out anymore.
Maybe that was why he had brought her IK. Maybe he had placed him there so that he could be a distraction while he lived life.
She suddenly wanted to go home hoping IK would follow her and spend time with her over there. But she knew his answer already.
“Why don’t you come and sit here…” She tried to suggest casually dropping his phone and picking a fry.
“And why?” He asked oblivious to her intentions.
“So I can steal some of your fries.” She giggled and he joined her. She was glad when he came to join her and out of impulse she shifted closer to him. He didn’t seem to mind since he didn’t move away.
“Happy now?”
She shrugged as if she wasn’t ready to scream that he sat close to her and made her heart want to explode.
“So, when are you going home?” He asked as he nibbled a fry dipped into ketchup.
“Next week maybe. I’ll have to resume work and sort out things.”
He nodded as if assimilating what she was saying.
“You know you can always come visit me at home.” She chiped in again.
“It’s not that. I’m just wondering if you’re up for it, your Dad, your friends and everyone else who hurt you. But I want you to know I’ll always be there for you and you can trust me with everything you would like to say.”
Her heart melted and she reached for his hand. “Thank you.”
He smiled softly at her and at first she thought he was going to kiss her but he continued. “When that incident happened to you, I have never stopped wondering what if I had not gone away and I had just been there for you. Maybe you wouldn’t be hurt. I know your Dad says he didn’t do it, but I remember clearly what happened to you before I left for PH. You withdrew, you were no longer the Lara that we used to have fun together. I just wish…”
She swallowed. So he was the only one who knew something was up.
“You wish what?” Her eyes stung with tears.
“I’ve often blamed myself and I tried to imagine the kind of life we would have had if all that didn’t happen. Maybe you would not have fallen into the wrong hands…”
She reached and touched his face. “You make me wish my life wasn’t this way but it’s happened and I don’t know if anything can happen between us.”
“You’re no different to me Lara, I want you to know that. But I just want you to heal from the One who heals broken hearts and can restore you.”
“Who’s that?”
“Jesus…”
She closed her eyes. At that moment she felt someone had poured cold water on her and she withdrew immediately. Did he have to spoil the moment for her by bringing in their religion?
“Thank you.”
“Lara…” He reached out but she recoiled. He’d spoiled her mood already. What a nice way to ruin the perfect moment for her.
“ You know what, I’m hungry, let’s eat and get out of this place.”
She saw he was hurt at her reaction but she wasn’t going to allow him reach out to him the way Nimi and Dapo had been trying to. She didn’t need any Jesus or any God. She needed someone who could understand her and love her flaws and all. Not some God who left her to battle strange voices and watched as her father hurt her several nights in a row. Not some God she’d cried to days before and he just remained quiet. Dapo had said he wasn’t like that.
Well, to her that was what she could see and she wasn’t ready to start digging to find Him.
He should find her when he’s ready. As for her, she wasn’t going to be playing hide and seek with some bearded guy somewhere who loved to dish out judgements and had no concerns for her.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
They got home around 8 and she realized that her brother was not back from the party he’d gone for. His house felt lonely and scary when he wasn’t home and she wondered if home would be any different when she left. IK slept over sometimes but she noticed he wouldn’t if Dapo wasn’t home. When he did that, he made her feel like some plague.
Men would die to be alone with her but he was just different or chose to live by what their bible preached.
Just like Nimi.
She had never been alone this way and the reality of what her life was coming to disturbed her at one point. She’d tried to call Dapo but his phone was switched off.
So much for loving her and telling her no one was going to come between them.
Nimi was coming between them again and again.
“You okay?” IK asked.
She turned. “I don’t know. No one is home and I’m just scared to be alone I guess.”
IK looked at his wristwatch and sighed and she could see him battling with his thoughts.
“You can stay till Bro Dapo comes home.” She urged hoping he would give in.
“I guess there’s no harm in keeping you company is there?”
She beamed and threw herself on him. “Thank you. I promise I won’t talk your head off.”
He laughed and they found their way inside together. Turning on the lights, he headed straight for the TV and turned it on almost forgetting the reason why he was here with her. She wanted to grow upset but another idea came up in her head and she smiled to herself.
“I’ll just pick up from where I stopped on your brother’s Playstation. At least the noise should make you remember someone is home or you can come join if you like.” He smiled at her before pulling off his jacket and settling on the rug.
Was he inviting her? Maybe he was getting the hint afterall.
“Sure, let me just go and change and I’ll be right back.” She gave him her best smile and headed for the stairs. When she got into her room, she glanced at the time hoping they had enough time to herself before her brother came home. She pulled off her clothes and took a brief shower before spraying something on. Picking her favorite night dress without any underwear, she threw on a jersey jacket and let her hair down while applying slight make up on her face focusing more on her lips and ensuring she got enough cleavage revealed that he wouldn’t be able to resist.
She was sure the thought of his religion would even fly out of his head when she showed him what he was missing and how she was offering herself to him because she loved him.
She knew he loved her too. His eyes said it all when they were at the restaurant and the couple of days they’d been together.
And that was how two people in love showed each other what love was about.
When she got downstairs, she saw he was really engaged in the game and did not really glance at her.
“Wow, something smells nice.” He said, his face still on the screen while tapping on the pads.
She giggled and strolled towards him and that was when he did a double take. She saw he was at a loss for words and she quickly took advantage of the situation and found her way to his side.
“You want me IK, and you can have me. I hold nothing back.” Her hands strolled to his shirt and she managed to find her way beneath so she could run her hands on his chest.
She was right. He felt so strong and she couldn’t wait for him to take her.
She kissed him and saw he hesitated. She pressed further hoping his hands would soon be all over her and give her life the way she was burning for him. She smiled when she realized that she had won as he took over the kiss and kissed her with the same intensity she’d been hoping he would.
When her hands reached for his belt, he withdrew.
“Oh no…”
She stared at him confused. “What’s wrong, don’t you love me?” She reached for his face and tried kissing him again but he moved away quickly struggling to his feet.
“I’m sorry Lara, I love you but…”
“But what?” She stared at him hurt that he was already shattering her heart to pieces.
He ran to pick his jacket and headed out of the door. She didn’t understand what was going on and kept staring at the door hoping he would come back for some reason that he went to get something but he didn’t.
It was after 30 minutes were gone and he wasn’t back she realized he had left her all by herself feeling like a stood up girl. This was the worst night of her life. She’d never felt so miserable. No man had ever treated her this way and IK had just embarrassed her.
How could he do this to her? How could he kiss her and run away from her? How cruel could a man be? She suddenly hated him, hated him for how he’d treated her and running out on her without an explanation.
She pulled her strap which had fallen over her shoulder to cover herself and adjusted her hair trying to maintain the dignity she had left. Switching off the TV, she headed to her room and closed the door.
Sinking to the floor, she broke into tears.
Much love. xo!
