Episode 28. Enjoy!
Nimi and Dapo drew closer to each other the more they spent time together and Nimi felt her affection for him deepen as the months passed and time flew by she almost forgot that Lara had tried to separate them in the past. When they would spend time talking over the phone, she would wonder how she could have allowed his sister try to come between them. Though she hardly saw her, she still prayed for her but was glad that Dapo showered all his love on her whenever they were together. Their moment was their moment and she couldn’t wait for them to get married. It was their seventh month and sometimes she wondered if he was going to pop the question anytime soon.
Somedays, her body felt like it was on fire and she couldn’t believe she had all those feelings hidden inside. Feelings that jumped with excitement whenever she caught Dapo staring at her or if he happened to throw his arms around her casually whenever they sat around their friends talking and laughing. Out of reflex, she would reach for his hands and hold on to it while basking in his arms in such a way that she could feel his heartbeat. He would look at her and smile softly before facing his friends again to continue their conversation.
Sometimes she’d wish he would kiss her again. It’d been about 3 months since their first kiss and it was like he wasn’t moved by it. Was she not a good kisser? Sometimes she told herself he was staying away because of what they’d promised each other and the boundaries they created. But she had never stopped thinking of the kiss hoping that one day they could just kiss again.
It would be brief. She told herself often staring at him longingly. She did not understand her body and why it acted this way. She always thought she could not be like those women who would not fall for a guy just because he had charm and he was drop dead gorgeous.
But Dapo was her man. She consoled herself with the thought. She had a right to think that way didn’t she, the right to look at him and want him. The right to fall for him which she did almost everytime he smiled at her or took her out to dinner or picnics. She had a right to look into their future and imagine herself with his babies.
Yes, she wanted to have his babies.
She giggled at the thought. If someone had told her she would be acting like a fool in love, she would have denied it. But with the way Dapo showed her love, she wanted to forget reasoning and just explore a little.
“And where did you get that dress?”
She snapped out of her daydream and saw Tolani staring at her wide-eyed.
She raised a brow and smiling with satisfaction pretending she wasn’t aware of how the dress did a good job of hugging a figure she’d never had the boldness to reveal before Dapo. “What do you mean?”
Her sister closed the door behind her and stepped forward.
“My goodness Sis Nimi…” Tolani went behind her to assess her while shaking her head in wonder. “You want Bro Dapo to faint when he sees you abi.” She chuckled and blew a slow whistle so that her sister slapped her playfully.
“But seriously, is it that bad?” She looked at herself in the mirror and liked what she saw. A sexy woman wearing a red off the shoulder sheath dress while the hair she had sat at the salon for hours the previous day came tumbling across her shoulder in a wavy fashion. She’d spent a good amount of money on the hair as Dapo had sent something into her account earlier that week when she told him she wanted to get a few things. She had learned to stop arguing with him since he seemed to enjoy giving her things and buying her gifts. It was probably the way he knew how to express his love language. From a new phone to a new laptop for herself and Tolani. Even her mother enjoyed his benefits and sometimes she was tempted to think it was like a dream she would someday wake up from.
He had told her they were having dinner a friend was throwing for his engagement party at Radisson Blue Anchorage Hotel V.I and she wanted to look stunning. She wanted him to be a man proudly displaying his beautiful woman in his arms. Maybe he would see her this way and remember their kiss.
She frowned wondering why her thought had been dwelling on that for days.
Maybe because you’re paying less attention to me and my purpose for your relationship.
She closed her eyes sighing heavily. “I bought this at such a high price. What am I going to wear if I don’t wear this?”
She turned to Tolani for closure. “Well, do you think it’s indecent? It’s not showing my cleavage or anything.”
“Well, true. It’s just showing God’s work and Mr Chocolate will get to appreciate it very well.” Tolani’s voice dripped with sarcasm and they both laughed.
“I guess I’ll just have to put it off then.”
“Ah, of course not. I mean it’s great. It’s beautiful. All we need is the make-up and you’re looking like a goddess and all men would like to bow at your feet.” She helped her adjust the zip and went to get her kit. “I was just surprised because I’ve never seen you dress like this before. You look bold and daring which I really like. The colour really looks good on you and the hair is just amazeballs. You will trend on my Instagram timeline tonight don’t worry.”
“See your life. So all that time I used to wear normal clothes, I didn’t trend. It’s now you’re proud to display my picture.”
“Yelz of course.”
They both laughed before she settled down for Tolani’s art work. She looked into her spirit for any nudge or warning hoping she wouldn’t hear anything.
She got none.
She was good to go then.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Dapo smiled as Nimi kept chatting her way throughout their journey back home. He wasn’t aware his girlfriend would come to enjoy engagement parties the way she kept going on and on about it. Quiet Nimi had suddenly become chatty Nimi who talked about the love between the couple and how the bride-to-be looked stunning and how everything was just glowing and colourful.
He glanced at her and for one strange reason, she suddenly reminded him of Lara in so many ways though the two were contrast to one another.
She looked beautiful. He couldn’t stop thinking about her. Throughout the party she’d been quiet and he would catch her stealing glances at him when they sat at the table assigned to them. When people came out to dance, he wished he could, but he knew if he was going to dance with Nimi, there was no way they would not be touching bodies. His hands would definitely want to remind him of what he’d missed years ago and how much his body wanted Nimi and her dress did little to ease the tension he felt when he set eyes on her.
She stirred his blood. The familiar desire that consumed him in the past almost rose to make him claim her into his arms and give her pleasure but he had managed to recover when she settled in beside him. She really had a good figure and she looked like some model that stepped out of a magazine cover.
He could not believe this woman would be his in months’ time. Ever since their first kiss, he’d pushed it somewhere to the back of his mind because he did not want to be caught fantasizing about his girlfriend but sometimes he only had to look at her and the thoughts would come crashing into his mind. How he could not imagine being the only one who had her for himself. How he wanted to be the only one to love her and be her only lover. The one that would make her melt in his arms.
The cold shower he would be taking this night would be a long one.
He remembered he’d bought something for her so when they arrived at her house, she turned to look at him.
“You seem quiet.” Her eyes danced around his face before settling on his lips.
Did she want him to kiss her? He couldn’t trust himself not to want more if he did.
“Uh, nothing princess. It’s just…” He reached for a slim velvet box he’d kept at the backseat and placed it on her lap gently. Maybe the next one would be a ring but he wanted to be sure passion wasn’t the one leading him over God. “Why don’t you open it and tell me if you like it.”
He could see her smiling already and she suddenly pouted trying to act stubborn. He saw only her lips and how he wanted to claim them.
“C’mon!” He laughed. “Open it already.”
She finally did and her eyes widened when she saw the expensive jewellery sitting comfortably on the pouch in the box.
“Wow, Dapo this is…”
“Don’t you like it?” He was afraid she might not like it. He couldn’t read her expression at the moment.
“Of course not!” She looked up at him. “It’s so beautiful. I’m just trying to imagine…”
“How it’s going to fit nicely on your neck.” He cut in.
Her eyes softened and she asked. “Would you like to help me put it on?”
“Sure.” He said without thinking of what he’d gotten himself into. It was when he reached to clip it around her neck he saw how flawless her skin looked. Her off-shoulder dress revealed enough skin that he was so tempted to lean close and plant a kiss on her neck. Better still, trail kisses down her shoulders. His hands began to tremble but he managed to get himself before he did something foolish.
“There you go.” He swallowed thanking God Nimi did not know what was going through his mind as he helped with the neckpiece.
She turned to face him fingering the piece delicately. “Thank you.”
Her face was close to him now and he could see how her eyes seemed to say something else. He’d seen that look in the eyes of several women he dated in the past and he wasn’t about to lose control right here and right now.
Tell her to step out of the car.
He kept staring at her unable to mouth the words and watched her as she leaned close to kiss him on the cheeks.
When he turned he met her mouth and forgetting everything else, he kissed her.
She was like a ready woman because she didn’t hold back. Instead, she gave him herself while allowing him to kiss her with all the pent up passion he’d stored up for weeks. Days when he’d thought of how he couldn’t help himself if she pushed him.
He broke free and breathed staring into her eyes. She smiled and touched his lips with her fingers
“Remember this baby?” She mumbled
He laughed and planted kisses on her fingertips understanding fully well what she meant. He’d never known Nimi to be so bold she would touch him this way.
“And to think it was because I was a bad kisser you stayed away from kissing me.” She confessed reaching to kiss him again.
He allowed himself get carried away for a while. Oh just a little more. He kept hoping as he got lost once again.
When they broke free, he shook his head. “You are driving me crazy baby. If you know how long I’ve been thinking of kissing you.”
She chuckled and rested on her seat to look at him. “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?”
He looked into her eyes and sense flew out of the window. “It’s a good thing.”
“I like you kissing me but I think I like it too much and I don’t want to get carried away.” She admitted.
He nodded. “I think it’s okay to stop it here for now. I’m scared of my feelings and how I might be unable to hold back from touching you.”
He noticed she didn’t look disturbed at the word ‘touch’ Maybe she was tired or didn’t know what he meant. But he was glad they talked about things like this.
“I have to go inside before my mum starts wondering what’s going on with us, or Tolani has some binoculars spying on us.”
“I’ll call you.” He promised.
She blew him a kiss and strolled off while he kept watching her and still trying to believe his luck. Did she know the effect she had on him.
As if reading his mind, she turned to catch him staring and he smiled sheepishly. He wanted to feel embarrassed that he’d been looking at her backside for too long. She smiled shyly and waved while he raised his hand but unable to wave back.
Dear Father, I need you to knock some sense into my head tonight. When did I become lust-struck? He shook his head and turned on the ignition driving home.
He remembered Nimi’s smile when she’d caught him staring. Maybe it was because she didn’t know what he was capable of. When the fleshy side of him took over, it did not stop and would keep looking for justifiable ways to keep him going. He had to quench the fire now and he would tell her the same.
Music, prayer, bible passages and a cold shower. He was pulling out Voltron on the lust of his flesh tonight before it got himself and Nimi into trouble.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Nimi was glad that she was almost done and she had succeded in rounding up her project finally. All the hassle she’d gone through. Her life seemed to be going fine at the moment. Her relationship with Dapo was blooming so well she had nothing to worry about. Sometimes she would stretch her left hand and stare at the fourth finger smiling that a ring would be placed on it soon.
Her mind suddenly wandered to the type of ring it would be. She was sure it would be the expensive type. Something with a diamond perhaps. And how would he propose? Somewhere exotic? Somewhere that would have a video footage of how he proposed? Her head was swimming with lots of ideas already. And oohhh, her wedding dress. And she would be Mrs Olakitan Junior. She could imagine herself in Dapo’s house already, making him dinner before he got home, helping him to loosen his tie, making love till they were both satiated.
God was really good to her.
She sighed wallowing in her daydream again. She’d often wondered how her wedding night would be. Sometimes she got scared that he might hurt her since it was the first time but she’d heard some women talk about it and how she was going to enjoy it after a while. Recently she had started reading books on intimacy and even stumbled on some that she would normally regard as ‘ungodly’
She had been reading it before she caught herself and deleted it from her phone. What was happening to her? Why was she getting carried away so easily? Why did she dream of Dapo’s kiss every night even after they’d agreed not to kiss or cross any boundary again. Sometimes she would even imagine him touching her and she would come alive. Her thoughts she often wished she could hide from God because recently, they were becoming more ungodly and uncensored by the day.
Dapo should just propose already.
Marriage isn’t the solution to lust. God is.
She blinked wondering where the thought had come from. She wasn’t battling lust neither did she think she was capable of lust. Her mind only expressed how much she loved Dapo.
Love does not rejoice in iniquity.
I’m not rejoicing in iniquity. She sounded defensive and shrugged. Why was her spirit picking on her unnecessarily?
Her phone rang and she stared at the ID wondering who it was. She was still getting used to her new iPhone and picked it.
“Hello…”
“This is Mrs Kitan on the line.”
Her heart raced. “Ah, good afternoon Ma. I’m sorry I didn’t know it was you. I don’t have your number Ma”
The woman chuckled and her laughter sounded like honey. Wealth was probably responsible.
“C’mon, it’s no big deal. How are you doing my dear?”
“I’m fine ma. Thank you ma.”
“Are you free tomorrow? Dapo told me you’re rounding up your program pretty soon and I was wondering if you could stop by and say Hi. I would love for us to have a chat.”
She swallowed without thinking. This was her future mother-in-law and she had to be in her good books. At least Lara had not moved back yet.
“Yes ma. I would love that too.”
“Okay dear. Will 10 a.m be fine by you? I can tell the driver to take you back home.”
“Oh okay ma.”
“I already told Dapo you’ll be spending your Saturday with me.” She said matter of factly. “We will have breakfast, spend time at the pool and chat like ladies. You can bring your bikini and if you don’t have one, there are dozens in the house still brand new. This is your home now so whatever is ours is yours, okay dear?”
“Yes ma, thank you ma.”
“You’re welcome my darling. Take care and see you soon.”
Nimi waited for her to hang up and stared at her phone slightly terrified. She wondered what the woman was going to talk to her about and if she was also anticipating her son’s proposal as well.
Father, let this work out for my good. She prayed before dropping her phone and heading out to the market to buy things for the house.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
“You can enrol for swimming lessons.” Mrs Kitan said when Nimi explained she did not know how to swim after a huge breakfast of a meal she’d thought was eaten outside Nigeria. Toast with baked beans and sausage with scrambled eggs and a nice cup of warm chocolate. She was going to blow up soon if she had this for breakfast everyday. She had the maids attend to her even when she felt she could serve herself. There was a private dinning separate from the one they’d used the day before when she came over to the house with Dapo. Though not as elegant as the one she’d seen before, this looked more exotic, modern and sophisticated.
Their pool stretched out before them looking blue and clean and she wondered if she would have been bold enough to swim even if she could. The thought of jumping into the water in a skimpy bikini. What if Dapo hopped in on them anytime or Mr Kitan? She didn’t like the way the man had looked at her the other day and she just couldn’t fathom seeing him after what she heard he did to Lara. Though they’d said it was a lie, something within her refused to believe it.
“Come, I would like to give you somethings.” Mrs Kitan broke into her thoughts leading her upstairs. She’d never gone past the stairs before and she marveled at how large and beautiful their house was it looked scary. “I went to the store at V.I yesterday.” She continued carrying herself like royalty while holding a part of her Ankara from being caught by her feet. “I remember you mentioned you liked my prints and so I thought I should get you some for your wardrobe. I wasn’t sure of your size or I’d have gotten you some lovely gowns as well. We could go shopping sometime. We have all the time in the world don’t we?”
When she got to the living room upstairs she stopped when she saw a bundle of lace and beautiful prints which she was sure was expensive. They were also 3 different bags in leather. One had Gucci and the other was Coach and Jimmy Choo. They were still wrapped up.
“Dapo told me you have a sister and your Mum. And then your brother, I was thinking he would like to settle with the Guinea…”
“Ah Ma…” She went on her knees immediately. “This is just too much.”
“Oh get up please. I have told you. You’re no longer a stranger in my home. See me as your second mummy and you’re my second daughter now before the grandkids start coming.”
Nimi blushed and stood up.
“Thank you Mummy. I don’t know what to say but thank you for being kind to me.”
The woman settled on the leather couch, a satisfied smile on her face. Was there anything that didn’t scream money in their house? Nimi wondered. The living room was like half of the one downstairs and had a cosy outlook. She could see other rooms and another hallway leading somewhere else and she wondered how many rooms were present in the house. Beautiful pictures of Dapo and Lara as kids sat comfortably on the furniture like decorations while Chief’s portrait took space on the wall. Other pictures of popular artistes and abstract landscapes were displayed coupled with porcelain dolls and other ceramic pieces that spread across the shelves just beside the TV. “I can take you to meet my tailor. He makes dresses for top society people in Lagos. You have a beautiful body which I’m sure he will do justice for when he makes you dresses.”
“Ah, you don’t have to Ma. I can get someone to sew them. You’ve done so much…”
“I haven’t even started.” She pulled her up and beckoned to her to join her on the couch. Nimi sat beside her smiling wondering how favoured she was. “When my grandkids start coming, I’m going to spoil them rotten.” She giggled and Nimi joined her.
That sounded like a stamp of approval.
“So, my dear, have you and Dapo started talking about kids yet?”
She shook her head. Or did she think her son had proposed?
“We talk about it sometimes but since Dapo hasn’t proposed, it’s not something we like to talk about often.”
“Oh I see.” Her hands reached for hers and she smiled. Nimi sensed the conversation was leading somewhere. Her kindness was making her almost uncomfortable.
“But don’t you guys want to try? It’s not bad to try y’know.” She smiled sweetly toying with a dangling earring while her eyes were intense on hers. “Have you ever wondered if it could give you an advantage instead?”
“I don’t understand…” Her heart raced.
“Dapo listens to me as well and I love the way you two are madly in love. But a word of advice my dear, don’t let your man starve so he starts looking outside. It’s not like you two won’t finally get married but imagine if you get pregnant now, Dapo would stop drawling and propose. Don’t you want that sweetheart?”
“Well.., I…” She suddenly felt scared of offending the woman after she’d shown her so much love and attention. She’d spent most of her days daydreaming about his future proposal and their wedding but she didn’t want to push it.
“Did you know I was the one who told Jibola to come and stay with me when you went over? I was the one who counseled him after the incident happened between you two. You can see I’m rooting for you two.”
She swallowed and looked down. “Thank you Ma.”
She reached for her chin so she could stare into her eyes. “You are a beautiful woman Nimi and a lucky one to be noticed by my son. I know you’re the jealous type too and you wouldn’t want any other girl to take your place. You’ve got to do your part too. You’ve got to be wise in these things. I know you two say you’re Christians and don’t believe in those kind of things but I just feel there’s nothing wrong in expressing love to one another.” Releasing her she allowed her hands stroll to her arms.
“You are aware of what happened to my daughter Lara. I was thinking she was going to get married to Soji but with everything that happened, I can’t help but wonder if my baby is going to be stigmatized for the rest of her life. I wish I could send her away for a while but I don’t want her to feel lonely there too. She has IK here at least. I don’t want someone who would marry her for her money. IK seems to be the only honest man around her. That’s why I was wondering if you could make me a happy woman, I would really appreciate that.”
She nodded at a loss for words. She suddenly felt for the poor woman but was that enough to compromise for her? She didn’t want to mention it to Dapo and turn them to enemies. Besides, it wasn’t like she hadn’t thought of it and how it would be.
You two are going to be married afterall won’t you? So it’s really no big deal. I mean, you know God has said Yes so it’s certain.
But pre-marital sex…
It’s just between you two. No one will know. Besides, you can always ask for forgiveness afterwards
But Dapo and I already agreed
C’mon, didn’t you see how you two were on fire for each other the other night and how he couldn’t take his eyes off you. Didn’t you like it? The power you had over him.
I don’t want to pull him down. I can’t.
It’s just once. Only once. C’mon Nimi. Let’s do this thing and know what it feels like. Even his mum doesn’t think it’s a big deal. Dapo doesn’t have to know. I’m sure God understands that you have blood running through your veins as well.
She sighed. The temptation was getting worse day by day. She had to spend more time in God’s word because the thoughts won’t stop coming. Maybe because she was letting down her guards so easily these days.
Mrs Kitan broke into her thoughts.
“I’ll give you time to think about it sweetheart. But remember that I only want the best for you two.”
“Yes ma.”
She smiled. “Let me take you around the house. I think you should come and spend sometime with me as it gets lonely here sometimes.”
She nodded. “I would love that.”
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Lara picked up her second box and threw it into her car. She had been postponing going home but knew that she had to. She had not seen her father ever since the incident as they only talked on phone but she wasn’t bothered. She wasn’t going to tell him IK was aware of what had happened. She was scared her father might hurt him or do something she wouldn’t want.
Though she was still mad at him, she still liked him being alive. She wouldn’t pick his calls or reply his texts. For weeks this went on. He dropped by the house but she would completely ignore him and lock herself in her room. He had humiliated her and he felt he could just stroll in without explaining why he left her high and dry. He didn’t love her and she wasn’t ready to spend time listening to whatever he had to preach. She wanted him to love her the way she understood and he had refused.
What other ways do you love a woman? Or was he impotent and he was hiding it from her.
She was tempted to ask him but her pride won’t let her. Sometimes she would lose herself into erotica and pornography instead trying to run away from her present reality that no one wanted her or loved her. Dapo had Nimi to himself and she had taken the back seat. IK wanted to talk and she just wanted to get straight to business.
Her father was only concerned about saving his reputation and her mother was too scared to face the truth.
Every single person were saving their heads and she felt like someone who was thrown outside in the dark, naked and vulnerable.
She was beginning to have nightmares. Dreams she had not had since childhood were resurfacing again and they woke her up often. The dream would begin showing her little princess room, wearing her frolly clothes and playing teacups with Barbie and Ken. Then she would be on her bed talking to the teddy bears her father had bought for her. She’d named each one of them. IK would come into the room and play with her. She gave him access because she trusted him. They would laugh and talk about her bears.
Suddenly it would grow dark and she would see her room had grown dim.
“Mummy…, Daddy.” She drew the covers to herself scared of something she couldn’t see.
She turned to see IK was gone.
“Daddy!” She would scream and he would come into her room to comfort her.
“I was scared.” She found herself sobbing into his chest and holding him tight. “I can’t sleep ever since Mummy left me.”
He would rub her back and she would relax. But the rubbing won’t stop. He would tell her to lie down and close her eyes and she would be fine. His hand would find his way up her dress and she would jerk from the bed scared that of the night that turned everything upside down for her. She found it hard to remember life before that. Only the dreams gave her glimpses but ended up where she’d been abused. She thought they were gone. Why were they coming out now? What was going on with her? She couldn’t tell Dapo. She had lied to him already.
What would she look like if she told him she had agreed with her father’s perverted acts.
“Are you sure you don’t want IK to follow us? I think whatever is between you two, should be resolved.”
She looked up and shook her head wearing her shades so her brother won’t see her eyes. Dapo had agreed to take her back home after church and he was keeping his word. She couldn’t bear to live here anymore. With the way himself and Nimi were going, they would probably get engaged soon and need more time and privacy. The last thing she wanted to see was her brother smooching the girl she hated so much. Miss goody two shoes was going to have the perfect man and the perfect home and the perfect babies while she was going to end up in some rehab soon if the dreams won’t stop.
“Did IK call you?”
“He’s been buzzing me. Says you won’t pick his call. He’s close and already on his way. The least you can do is allow him come with us. C’mon sweetheart…”
“Okay fine. If you insist.”
Her brother sighed. “I’m just looking out for you and want you to be surrounded by people who love you.”
She shrugged. “Let me go and check your room to see if I didn’t forget anything and if I do, you can help me bring it over.”
“Sure. Let me see grab some snacks too.”
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
When they arrived at the Kitan’s Mansion, Dapo realized that his parents were not home and suspected they had gone for their usual Sunday outings at the club. Only the maids were home but he told Lara to buzz him or hang with them if she wanted to spend time out of the house. He wanted to wait till his parents got back so he could talk with their father but she insisted she could handle it and she needed to spend time alone for a while.
He obliged after much persuasion.
She found her way inside and the girls helped her with her boxes while chatting her up and saying they missed her. She wasn’t sure if what they had said was true but she didn’t want to care.
She just wanted to be alone. She was probably going to be alone for the rest of her life.
But she didn’t want to. She was scared and afraid. She checked her phone and saw no missed call or texts. None of her friends had buzzed her. They had all left her. Even the men she’d had affairs with. No one was calling her. Soji had not been on his BBM for days but had changed his Whatsapp display picture from her picture to something blank. Some had even deleted her from their group and she wanted to cry. She had never known life this way. She was even scared to open any of her social media accounts because the last time she did, she’d seen girls and guys cussing at her and making mockery of her and how they would like her to service them for free since she did it for older men. Some called her all kinds of names. People she didn’t even know in her life were sending her messages on her facebook and Instagram and even fabricating all sorts that she had not done.
For a brief moment, she contemplated suicide and shook it away.
Why couldn’t she be like those celebrities that did something nasty and were not bothered. Kim Kardashian had been one of her role models but right now, she was just too weak to cling to that. She had never been bothered about things like this before so why now? She had nudes sent to Soji unashamedly and ignored rumors now, she felt so open and vulnerable. She was scared that she might go nuts and no one would love her as she kept pushing people away.
Her eyes went to her text messages and she saw the bulk of the messages were from IK.
I miss you.
Lara, are you upset? I left because I care about you. About us. About our future
I love you Lara but I just want you to heal that’s all.
Lara, why won’t you pick my calls? I’m going crazy not knowing what’s on in your mind.
Lara, can I come and see you today?
Lara, please reply my texts and answer my calls.
A tear dropped and she sank into her bed. She missed him. She wanted him to love her. She wanted to be with him. She knew he loved her. Even before they left, she had seen his eyes and how much he wished he could be with her. Was he scared of what would happen between them and that was why he kept holding himself from her? She didn’t understand the way he showed love but she was willing to give it a try. Her heart began to melt and she felt warm. Someone loved her and still wanted her. All hope wasn’t lost.
She reached for her phone and typed in quickly.
IK, please I’m sorry. Can you come back please? You can tell Dapo to drop you on the road if you want. I just realized my mistakes and I think I love you. Please don’t leave me.
There was a knock on the bedroom door and she looked up wondering who it was. Her mind traveled fast. Was it IK? That was not possible since she just sent him the message.
Or maybe it was Dapo that forgot something and the girls had allowed him in and upstairs even.
It had to be one of them. Or were her parents home and she didn’t hear the noise of the car?
She ran to the door and opened it excitedly but froze on the spot.
“Hello baby…, did you miss me?” Her ex-fiance drawled before finding his way inside.
Much love. xo!
