“Sweetheart sit still.”

“Yes, sit still.” Jemimah stuck out her tongue at her sister Keziah as she kept raising her hands to touch her hair obviously wishing her mother was done already with her braids.

Keziah frowned.

“Kezzie…”

“Mummy, tell Jemimah to stop teasing me.” She grumbled making a fuss and trying to sit still at the same time.

“C’mon, she’s only doing what she does best. But when it comes to house chores, she’s kicking and crying.” Nimi reciprocated her gesture and her other daughter folded her arms across her chest angrily this time. Keziah giggled and turned back to the mirror while leaning against her mum’s bump as she worked on her hair.

“Mum, whose side are you on?”

“Mum is never on anyone’s side. She’s neutral because she’s mum. duuuuh” Kezzie retorted.

Nimi shook her head laughing at her daughters pulling at each other playfully and trying to bring her into their teasing.

“Did I miss anything?” Keren poked through the door before opening wide when her two sisters turned to look at her. Jemimah shrugged. “Kezzie is being a baby.”

“No, I’m not.”

“You’re all my babies.” Nimi said as a matter of factly and that was a cue for the triplets to keep quiet and watch as their mother rounded up her work and fixed in the beads. “You guys are only 6 years old and you keep talking about not being babies. So, when you become 21, what will you be, grandmas?”

Keren laughed mischievously while Jemimah and Kezzie sulked.

“I love you my darlings.” She mumbled leaning to plant a kiss on each one of them and pulling them close though her size was the only obstruction between them. “Look at my girls looking so beautiful and amazing. I’m sure your Dad won’t help but compliment how beautiful you look tonight and I want you to be ready before going to spend the holidays at your cousins.”

Keren bobbed her head eagerly. “Aunt Lara told us Nimi and Pelumi can’t wait to see us over the phone. I’m really excited.”

“I hope I haven’t forgotten to pack anything?” Nimi packed all the kid’s accessories with the intention of cleaning them later. “We can’t afford to be rushing tomorrow morning you know that right?”

“I think we have everything packed except our toothbrushes and bibles.”

“And what are my angels talking about without me?” Nimi looked up to see her husband stroll into their bedroom while the girls ran to him like bees to honey. He lifted Kezzie and Keren while Jemimah clung to him. He kept stroking their braids when they showed it to him giggling as he kept wowing over them and complimenting them that he’d never seen anyone more beautiful than his daughters before. Planting a kiss on each of them, he told them to go downstairs and wait for dinner and they rushed downstairs declaring who would be first.

“Hey princess…” He smiled at his wife looking full grown and glowing with her bump and wanting to pull her into his lap as he settled on the bed. She looked so beautiful and flawless in her Ankara prints and he couldn’t imagine ten years were gone and he still desired her the way he’d always done the first day they met. She pushed him away playfully pretending to clear her dressing table.

“I thought your daughters were the most beautiful…” She began before he came behind her and planted kisses on her neck.

“They came from you…” He mumbled as his hands stroked her bump. “Right here.” She giggled when he began nuzzling her ears. “Or you want me to take credit for it cos I can y’know, afterall, their father is one from a fine stock too as you can tell…”

“Silly man.” She pressed against him and he pulled her into his lap so he could kiss her breathless. He began to reach for her zip when she stopped him. “Babe, if we don’t learn how to keep our hands off each other, we will be counting a football team in this house.”

They both laughed hysterically at her statement but that didn’t stop him from kissing her again. “That doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Besides, your condition is a big opportunity for us so I don’t have to worry about impregnating you for now since you have one in the oven already.”

Nimi giggled and wrapped her arms around him while admiring strands of white hair that were sprinkled on some parts of his hair and spread to his temples. Running her hands on his hair, she allowed him reach for her zip once more and remind her of familiar memories of their intimacy together. They were almost lost in each other when there was a loud barge on the door. Dapo groaned in frustration as he struggled to adjust his trousers while Nimi stood to pull what was left of her gown.

Someone struggled to open the door.

“Mummy! Daddy? Are you there? Why is the door locked?”

Nimi inhaled deeply. The way the girls cut in their private life could make her run mad on some days.

“What is it this time Jemimah?”

“It’s Keziah, she won’t give me the remote even after I recited 1 Corinthians 13 to her. That’s selfishness in my opinion.”

Nimi couldn’t help but burst into laughter and Dapo joined her, reaching to plant another full kiss on her lips quietly savouring their moment together.

“Tonight.” He mumbled against her lips not wanting to break free.

She tapped his backside and winked, turning so he could zip up her dress.

“We will be downstairs in a minute.” She called out as she realised her husband was intentionally taking his time to zip up her dress and she tried to give him a strict look but failed at it.

“Dapo now…”

“Alright I’m sorry, I just wanted to take in the sight a little.” He finally zipped up.

“When I do my own, I won’t play nice o.” She teased.

“Bring it on.” He shrugged and she reached to unlock the door just to see her daughter standing and waiting for them to answer her. Dapo reached to carry her and tickle her while they found their way downstairs together.

“Kezzie, what did I hear about you being selfish?”

“I wasn’t being selfish Mummy, Jemimah was trying to be selfish too and I wouldn’t have that.”

Nimi shook her head already amazed at how kids were displaying acts of the flesh at this age. She decided to retire to the kitchen while leaving her husband to handle them all. He had the strength to do that and she had to warm something up for dinner as she was getting hungry and was sure food would shut her kids up and make them sleepy soon. Besides, it was almost 7 and they needed to retire soon since they would be traveling tomorrow morning to Abuja. Lara and her husband had moved to Abuja ever since IK got a new job there and it favoured Lara since her mum was there and helped her look after her kids on some days when she had to work.

Unlike her, Lara was a working class lady while she still worked from home and made her client’s dresses from home and had made a name for herself as a fashion designer. She had enrolled for classes and kept sewing and using herself and Dapo as guniea pigs till she perfected the skills. It took her about 2-3 years before she finally settled into it and her handwork was beginning to bring in money for her. Now, she made most of her husband’s tradtional clothes and since he had many friends and acquaintances, referral was easy.If they liked what he was wearing or what his wife was wearing whenever they go for functions, she only had to give them their card. She called it their because they were in it together.

Dapo had helped her with the boys quarter region of the house where she had her equipment and machine and catalogues. The room was quite large and her husband made it so comfortable especially when the babies started coming. He furnished it and provided her with what she needed especially at a time where God had led her to make clothes for the less privileged kids which she did every year. She had even employed about 3 individuals who worked with her after praying about it and they did some of the minor job.

She was amazed at how God had changed her from what she’d studied and done a masters program for as she wasn’t even doing anything related to that at the moment. She was putting some of her P.A skills to use as it helped her in organising her time and prioritize her client’s work and Dapo came in with a brand name for her and helped her with the financial aspect. They combined their names and came up with DaNitan.

Her mind suddenly flashed to the clothes she’d made for Lara, her husband and her kids and how she didn’t want to forget them back home when they travelled tomorrow. She made a mental note to put that down immediately she was done warming the vegetable soup and served the rice Dapo had helped her cook earlier while she braided the girls’ hair upstairs.

“Kezzie, Jemimah!” Nimi called out as she served the food into the food bowl. “Keren!”

They ran into the kitchen like soldiers ready for duty.

“Yes mummy!” They stood at attention.

“Would you be kind to set the table while mummy dishes the food?” She squeezed her face when she saw them standing with their chest out mimicking a military position. “And when did you become soldiers?”

They laughed and went to set the table while Nimi shook her head. She was sure their father had put them up to this.

When they were done with dinner, Nimi went to sort out other things while Dapo spent time with the girls teaching them about Daniel and the 3 Hebrews who chose to love God irrespective of what the King threatened. The girls stared in awe as they watched their father narrate the story to them and when he was done he looked up. Nimi had joined them and she was smiling and looking at her girls as they leaned into their father’s arms asking questions when he was done.

“Wow Daddy I want to be like Meshach…”

“Me too” Jemimah and Keren chorused looking into his eyes.

“You already bear the name of Job’s daughters. You want us to attach their names to yours?” Nimi laughed coming close to pick the girls from their father’s arms as they planted kisses on him.

“We love you Daddy…” Keziah said and others echoed the same before Nimi led them to brush their teeth and go to their bedroom.

“Love you girls, my tigers in the making.”

They giggled when their Dad rose. “Have you kissed your baby brother goodnight?”

They stroked their mum’s belly and each of them planted a kiss on her bump. “We love you little brother. Sleep well and don’t disturb mum tonight okay?” Jemimah said as a matter of factly.

Both parents laughed as the girls retired for bed.

A few hours after, when the kids were long gone into dreamland and husband and wife were alone once again, Nimi looked up smiling at her husband though she was already feeling sleepy after he’d almost worn her out. He planted a soft kiss on her forehead and she could feel his racing heart, strong and healthy. She could tell he would drowse off soon.

“I love you sweetheart.” She murmured placing a hand on his chest and thanking God for the gift he’d given her in Dapo the priest in their home and the three ‘tigers’ she had sleeping in their room. For her life at the moment, for her family who were still there for her and buzzed from time to time, for her mother-in-law and the sister she had come to have in Lara, for the beauty in her kids having the liberty to spend time with their cousins who were obviously grown by now and for the fact that though their babies had come four years after their marriage, she was content at the moment. They hadn’t thought up names for the boy yet, if he was a boy that is, but she was trusting God to provide her with one the way He did for her triplets.

Soon she drifted off into a beautiful dream, full of love, hope and a beautiful future with Christ their hope of glory.

The End.

Much love. Xo!
